Top 10 tips on How to take the Best Travel Selfie – Be the next Selfie King/Queen!

October 29, 2015 By thetravelbug Leave a Comment

While on vacation, you’d like to kick back, chill-out, relax, and explore the sights of the city. Taking a travel selfie is a great way to relive our days of fun and freedom, once we are back home after the vacation. From our Prime minister to Movie Stars, everybody’s doing it.Prime_Minister_Narendra_Modi_takes_a_selfie_with_Sheikh_Nahyan_bin_Mubarak_Al_Nahyan_and_Dr._Anwar_Gargash

But, There’s nothing worse than a bad #selfie. Don’t just point your camera at your face and take a shot without planning. Taking the Best Travel Selfie is a fine art and here’s how you do it..

1. Try a Good Angle

Remember! Always hold the camera a little higher than your chin. Your face looks better if the camera is just slightly higher than your eye line. Also it does wonders for your double chin and shows your puppy dog eyes. Keep your hand as far away as possible, turn your head a few degrees to the right or left so your features appear less flat, extend your neck and capture the good side of your face.6

2. Face the sun

Get as much natural daylight on yourself as possible, but don’t do the squint look. The sun will light up your face and also your background. Also, don’t miss the magic hour! (The magic hour is actually one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset).

3. Remember the Rule of Thirds

Place your face in the top-right or top-left corner of the frame. It’s more compelling than putting your face right in the center of the snap. You don’t want the travel selfie which looks like your Driver’s License photo. :p

4. Use the scenic background

The best travel selfie has more than just a face, there’s always something interesting to look at in the background. Always angle your camera towards what your capturing and try not to get too much of you. Shoot in landscape (horizontal) mode and keep the lines behind you straight for a dramatic travel selfie.fwefwefwefwefw

5. Use both hands or try a Selfie stick

Using both hands is easier and keeps the phone steady to hold it with one hand and push the shutter release button with the other. Use a selfie stick for wide angle shots or large group photos. Using a selfie stick may look ridiculous at times but it helps you take a great travel selfie.

6. Try your phone’s back camera

Though you won’t see your face as you take the picture, it’s worth the trouble as the back camera takes higher-resolution pictures than the front camera. No more blurry selfies.fwefwwefwefwe

7. Show some expression

Smile! Frown! Pout! Or make a silly face. Don’t take yourself too seriously. It’s not your Passport photo.

8. Show off your feet

When you think of a selfie, what immediately comes to mind is a photo of a person’s face. But isn’t a selfie a picture of you, taken by you. Why not take a photo of your feet, especially if you are barefoot on a beach, wearing your new shoes you just bought for the trip.

9. Show something new or local to the place

Take a travel selfie holding a new item you just bought, food you’re about to eat, a funny street sign or with a friendly local

10. Use Crop, Filter and Edit your photo

Use your favorite app to edit your photo a bit and the picture will look more real, like what you’re seeing with your eye.ewfwefwefwefwwefwef

Share your travel selfie on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest for all your friends and family to see. Happy Clicking! 😉fwefwefwfefw

Wonder why most Airplanes are painted white? Here’s the answer..

October 24, 2015 By thetravelbug Leave a Comment

Firstly, did you know when planes come off the assembly line at the factory, they’re green.

There are many reasons why most Airplanes are painted white and all of them are quite simple and practical..

  • Heat – White reflects heat away from the exterior of the airplane, reduces ambient temperature inside the cabin, reduces the amount of air conditioning.

  • Lease – Most airline companies don’t own their own planes, they take them on lease from airplane leasing companies. And the planes they hire are not allowed to be painted. Why you ask? Its simple! White planes have more resale value than the painted ones.
  • Resale – White oozes crisp minimalism and is very handy if the airline needs to sell the aircraft in a hurry. The new owner doesn’t have to repaint the whole aircraft, just the logo and company name – very economical.

  • Visibility – Corrosion, cracks, leaking oil can be easily spotted by the ground staff when the airplanes are painted white. Also can’t spot bird poop 😉
  • Long time to paint – A full body paint job on an aircraft take weeks to complete, the Airline cant afford to incur a loss just for the damn paint to dry.
  • Cost – Painting the full body can cost anywhere between $50k-$200K. Spending such a hefty amount even before the plane takes off is waste of money.

  •  Paint adds extra weight – When a plane is painted with color, it adds an additional weight to the plane. More weight means more consumption of fuel. Its simple math, painting the full body of a Boeing 747 can add upto 250kgs whereas a little paint job only adds upto 25kgs. American Airlines saves more than $2 MILLION a year in fuel costs because their airplanes are painted white.
  • Longevity – White doesn’t fade away as easily as other colors do and easy to clean, maintain.

This amazing video by Nat Geo shows a Boeing 747 being painted.

Despite these reasons, there are a few airlines who love color and have awesome paint jobs on their airplanes.

Side Effects of Travel aka Travel Hangover – Confessions of a Traveloholic

October 24, 2015 By thetravelbug Leave a Comment

Side effects of Travel – Have you ever twirled around in circles and then suddenly started twirling the other direction — it makes you feel sick and dizzy, right? That’s exactly how your entire world will feel once you travel.

So what’s the big deal you ask? Travel is supposed to expand your horizons, right? It’s supposed to make you think differently. Wise men have made proclamations about how it changes the way one sees the world.
7600663676_88325bdd9f_k
First of all, the person who you were before you traveled no longer exists. It’s scary. You won’t realize it at first but it slowly starts creeping up on you as you travel. You start to see how other cultures live. Their views on work and leisure and quality of life and food and public transportation and art and architecture and tradition — it all starts to permeate into your brain and it takes over.

You’ll soon start asking yourself questions:

“Do I want to work 60+ hour weeks and have barely any vacation time?”

“Is there more to life than work?”

“What is most important in my life?”

“Why didn’t I study a foreign language?”

“Maybe other countries do some things much better than we do them back home.”

“How people in other countries figure out how to enjoy life?”

It doesn’t truly hit you until you’re back home because that’s when you discover “home” — the place that has always represented stability and comfort doesn’t exist anymore. Suddenly home feels different. It’s disorientating and it feels like you’re wearing someone else’s glasses.

It’s weird going from living out of a backpack/suitcase to having a house full of stuff you’ve amassed. You realize having a house/apartment full of stuff doesn’t make you happy — in fact, all your stuff starts to feel a little overwhelming.

Your friends and family and peers — they won’t understand. In fact, they don’t really care that you’ve just gone through this transformative journey. You’ll tell them all about what you ate, saw, and experienced, but I’m telling you that their eyes will quickly gloss over. This will happen just about every time. If you’re lucky your parents will listen to your tales for a few minutes before dozing off.

It’s lonely knowing that no one else will ever, or can ever, relate to your experiences. But you’ll continue the futile process of trying to tell your story.

But that’s not all. As you settle back into your regular life you’ll find that you’re not satisfied. 6769277859_7726383e2b_bTrying to focus on work becomes nearly impossible because the lure of travel consistently calls your name. You’ll find yourself trying to get your fix with marathon sessions watching Travel channels, reading travel blogs and watching travel videos.

You’ll seek out restaurants that serve food from the countries you visited — but it will never be as good as it was in Thailand, France, Italy, or wherever you traveled. And God help you if you acquire a taste for Belgian beer because your bank account will suffer.

You’ll find yourself randomly scouring the web for good deals on airfare or searching for cool places to stay on Airbnb, even though you have no time or money to travel.

Spending time on Facebook and Instagram will become almost unbearable because you’ll see your friends posting pictures of their travels. It will bring back great memories but the depression of being stuck at home will quickly takeover.7910370882_39d180fb66_b

BUT THE WORST THING ABOUT TRAVELING IS THAT YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO STOP.

You won’t be able to shake the travel bug. Whenever the possibility to visit another country arises you’ll take it. You’ll spend less time at the bar or choose a home cooked meal over a restaurant so you can add a little more to your travel fund. You’ll find other ways to skimp and scrounge because you have no choice but to see as much as the world as possible.

Its one hell of a crazy ride and you live only once.. #YOLO

TravelbugDiary’s Selection of Must Watch Travel videos

October 24, 2015 By thetravelbug Leave a Comment

Our true inspiration to Travel, create a travel blog and help others in our own little way to achieve their travel dreams came from watching these awe-inspiring tales from these legendary travelers. We hope these travel videos inspire you as well to start packing for your long awaited adventure.

I watched this below video, got inspired and started TravelbugDiary on the same day.

We call this home: 3 years around the world

Walter Chang saved money for 2.5 yrs and travelled to 60 countries in 3 years. This is what he had to say ” In 2011 I quit my job after saving up and started to travel around the world. I trekked amazing landscapes, checked off the bucket list, hitchhiked, slept anywhere I could, and made countless friends. These are my memories.”

Around the world in 360 degrees

Alex Chacon is the creator of this video which received the award for “Most Epic Selfie of 2014”, he says “I graduated college, sold everything I had, and rode a motorcycle around the world across 41 countries, and 300,000+ KM in 650 days.”

The Longest way 1.0 – walk through China

In 2008 Christoph Rehage, walked through China for 1 year over 4500 kms. He let his hair and beard grow, shot a small time lapse video each day of himself. This golden words – “Remember: life is not so much about going to strange places and taking photos of oneself (duh), but more about keeping an open mind, no matter if you’re on the road or not.”

Time Is Nothing – Around The World In 343 Days

Everybody loves a great time lapse video but how about one from 17 Countries over 343 Days and using 6237 Photographs created by Kien Lam

Thanks for watching and I hope this inspires you the same way it did for me.

Travelbug Vishnu.

Godzilla is named the Official Japanese Tourism Ambassador.

October 24, 2015 By thetravelbug Leave a Comment

We all know that Godzilla is the mighty monster upon which so many movies have been based, but what has he ever gotten for his pains? Endless insurance claims, felony charges of terrorism for destroying major sections of Tokyo, and most likely considerable difficulty finding a job outside the odd monster eviction. Godzilla-2014-Movie-Wallpapers

But all of that’s finally changing thanks to a new decree from the Tokyo ward of Shinjuku making Godzilla an official resident of Japan.godzilla

There’s no word on whether the role of tourism ambassador pays Godzilla a living wage, but hopefully it’s enough to allow him to get his feet under him—without crushing anyone in the process, that is.

Godzilla gets a sash of "Shinjuku-ward tourism ambassador" from the Kabuki-cho Shopping Area Promotion Association Chief Director Mototsugu Katagiri of Tokyo's Shinjuku-ward during its awards ceremony in Tokyo Thursday, April 9, 2015. Godzilla head towering 52-meters (171 feet) above ground level was unveiled after the irradiated monster was appointed special resident and tourism ambassador of the ward Thursday at an office of Toho, the studio behind the 1954 original. In gratitude for ‘Zilla’s contribution to Japanese society, Shinjuku Prefecture awarded him this cool new plaque of appreciation:gojira

According to Anime News Network, The plaque reads:

Name: Godzilla

Address: Shinjuku-ku, Kabuki-cho, 1-19-1

Date of birth: April 9, 1954 (the year of the release of the very first Godzilla film)

Date of becoming a Shinjuku resident: April 9, 2015

Reason for special residency: Promoting the entertainment of and watching over the Kabuki-cho neighborhood and drawing visitors from around the globe in the form of the Godzilla head built atop the Shinjuku TOHO Building.

Previous visits to Shinjuku Ward: 3 times; Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991), Godzilla 2000 Millennium (1999)

Although the official ceremony took place in April, Shinjuku just recently made certificate copies of Godzilla’s plaque available to the first 3,000 Japanese fans who request proof of his residency status.
