Hi! I’m Travelbug..
I exist in everyone of you. Some people are aware of my existence and some aren’t.. You feel my presence the most when you experience something brand new.. a new place, food, music, people, culture. You may also know me as the heart pounding, hair raising, goose bumping, exhilarating feeling when you go on an adventure. This is my story and my diary..
TravelbugDiary is managed by the duo – Vishnu and Vandana. Three years into their marriage they realized that travel was something that they both were quite excited about. They both have a deep craving to see new places, experience new cultures and as a result expand the limits of their mind. They truly believe that travel is a very deep personal journey and only when you are out of your comfort zone will you be truly able to explore your limits. Over the last three years both of them have been traveling together and separately to different parts of India and the world and each of the places have a story to tell, an experience to cherish.
Travel blogs are usually authored by people who have taken a huge step into the world of long term travel. They have quit their jobs, sold their stuff, packed their backpacks and bought their one way ticket for a journey of their lifetime. Or there are people who have a ton of free income to spend on travel or a trust fund baby.
We are not one of those people. We have bills to pay, parents to support, friends to care, pets to adore and all the trappings of a typical middle class young urban professional life. We like some amount of routine, get to work at 9:00 am every weekday, spend time on meditation, workout and ofcourse sleep in our own bed at the end of the day. We love our jobs, have a ladder to climb and that we want to climb!
We believe Travel can be affordable, if you plan for it and prioritize it in your life.
Heres a little bit about Vishnu and Vandana!
Travelbug Vishnu – “Someday I’m gonna travel the world“, was something that Vishnu kept telling himself all through his life. He always believed that this “Someday” would come soon, and then he would be on his way embracing new territories. He waited for a college degree or a job to send him abroad. He waited for 10 years. It never happened as he was dependent on others to make his travel dreams come true.
Two years ago, his wife and partner in all things crazy, Travelbug Van cajoled him to visit Thailand and Cambodia with her. Hesitant at first and highly reluctant, he believed that he would definitely not be able to make it as the “stars” were not on his side. He couldn’t even believe it until he boarded the plane. Once the plane took off, so did all his fears and insecurities as well. He felt like a new person. Excited like a kid, hungry to explore, waiting to take it all in with all the senses. That’s when he knew he was bitten…….by the Travelbug..
He has never been the same since then. In the last two years Vish has traveled to Thailand (Bangkok, Krabi), Cambodia (Siem Reap), UAE (Dubai, Sharjah), United States (Hawaii, San Francisco, San Jose, LA, Philly, DC, New York), Malaysia (KL, Langkawi), Egypt (Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, Alexandria). All of these trips were self sponsored, backpacking-styled and shoestring in budget. He always tells people that being from a middle class family its tough to travel but not impossible. It can be done with good pre-planning, cutting down daily expenses and a deep desire to travel.
His goal is to inspire and help his friends and community make their Traveler/Wanderer/Explorer dreams come true.
Travelbug Vandana – Being an earth bunny at her core, Vandana has been traveling the world following plants. She has always been attached to plants and trees since her childhood days, so much so that she has a PhD in Botany. She has traveled the forests of southern India extensively for her research work and through this got an opportunity to see some amazing core jungle areas. Luckily her line of work also got her some free rides to different parts of the world to attend conferences on cycads, her pet plant and also the one that she spent 8 years of her life researching. She has traveled to Malaysia, Singapore, Panama, China, US, Thailand, Cambodia and Dubai.
The best place she has been to is Hawaii – paradise on earth, also happens to be where she did her doctoral degree. For her graduation, Vishnu visited Hawaii and both of them traveled across the United States extensively, backpacking and crashing on friends couches. Although she has been extremely lucky to travel the world through her scholarship, she truly loves the way Vish plans and executes their travel. She couldnt have found a better travel partner, as they both love to roughen it up while on the road. Vandana is a true nature lover and can be lost in any place that has tons and tons of green. She wishes that every person in the city gets to connect to nature and travels to unknown forests and hills to be able to appreciate nature at its best.
