While on vacation, you’d like to kick back, chill-out, relax, and explore the sights of the city. Taking a travel selfie is a great way to relive our days of fun and freedom, once we are back home after the vacation. From our Prime minister to Movie Stars, everybody’s doing it.
But, There’s nothing worse than a bad #selfie. Don’t just point your camera at your face and take a shot without planning. Taking the Best Travel Selfie is a fine art and here’s how you do it..
1. Try a Good Angle
Remember! Always hold the camera a little higher than your chin. Your face looks better if the camera is just slightly higher than your eye line. Also it does wonders for your double chin and shows your puppy dog eyes. Keep your hand as far away as possible, turn your head a few degrees to the right or left so your features appear less flat, extend your neck and capture the good side of your face.
2. Face the sun
Get as much natural daylight on yourself as possible, but don’t do the squint look. The sun will light up your face and also your background. Also, don’t miss the magic hour! (The magic hour is actually one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset).
3. Remember the Rule of Thirds
Place your face in the top-right or top-left corner of the frame. It’s more compelling than putting your face right in the center of the snap. You don’t want the travel selfie which looks like your Driver’s License photo. :p
4. Use the scenic background
The best travel selfie has more than just a face, there’s always something interesting to look at in the background. Always angle your camera towards what your capturing and try not to get too much of you. Shoot in landscape (horizontal) mode and keep the lines behind you straight for a dramatic travel selfie.
5. Use both hands or try a Selfie stick
Using both hands is easier and keeps the phone steady to hold it with one hand and push the shutter release button with the other. Use a selfie stick for wide angle shots or large group photos. Using a selfie stick may look ridiculous at times but it helps you take a great travel selfie.
6. Try your phone’s back camera
Though you won’t see your face as you take the picture, it’s worth the trouble as the back camera takes higher-resolution pictures than the front camera. No more blurry selfies.
7. Show some expression
Smile! Frown! Pout! Or make a silly face. Don’t take yourself too seriously. It’s not your Passport photo.
8. Show off your feet
When you think of a selfie, what immediately comes to mind is a photo of a person’s face. But isn’t a selfie a picture of you, taken by you. Why not take a photo of your feet, especially if you are barefoot on a beach, wearing your new shoes you just bought for the trip.
9. Show something new or local to the place
Take a travel selfie holding a new item you just bought, food you’re about to eat, a funny street sign or with a friendly local
10. Use Crop, Filter and Edit your photo
Use your favorite app to edit your photo a bit and the picture will look more real, like what you’re seeing with your eye.
